The Best Foods to Eat for Beautiful Skin
Take a walk down the skin-care aisle of your local drug store and you may think that you’ve wandered into the produce department by mistake. Mangoes, carrots, and strawberries are just a few of the edible ingredients you’ll find on the labels of the moisturizers, toners, and masks there. And for good reason. These foods contain nutrients that can protect your skin and keep it clear, firm, and glowing. While rubbing products made from these ingredients on your face can do some good, the best way to care for your skin is from the inside out.
Sun Basket’s Director of Nutrition, Lindsey Kane offers some advice on good foods that can keep you looking great.
- Almonds, avocados, and sunflower seeds deliver a dose of vitamin E to protect your skin from damage caused by the sun and pollution.
- Beef, cashews, kidney beans, oysters, and other foods with lots of zinc aid in cell production and help give dull skin a fresh glow.
- Black beans, chicken, eggs, and quinoa are all good sources of amino acids, which help heal damaged skin and aid in the production of collagen and elastic tissue, which makes skin strong and supple.
- Broccoli, citrus, mangoes, and strawberries are all high in vitamin C, which is essential for producing collagen and helps prevent wrinkles.
- Carrots, kale, sweet potatoes, and other beta-carotene-rich foods have antioxidant powers to aid in cell production replacing dead skin cell with new, healthy ones.
- Sardines, walnuts, wild salmon, and other good sources of omega-3 fatty acids fight the inflammation caused by sun and stress which can damage collagen.
- Whole grains, fresh vegetables, beans, and fruit can help you avoid spikes in your blood levels, may lead to acne, wrinkles, and rashes.
